Message from Rabbi Yonah Rosner

Dear fellow Members and Congregants of our Shomrim Laboker Family Shule,
Perhaps one of the most important Mitzvohs in our Torah is, “Ushmartem es Nafshoseichem” to guard and protect our very precious yet fragile lives. It is our duty to care for our health to the best of our ability. It is also the responsibility of Community and Synagogue leaders to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all its precious members especially those who are in fragile health.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the United States government's top infectious disease expert recently said that the Coronavirus outbreak is getting worse and warned elderly and sick people to avoid traveling or circulating in crowds — a point later reinforced by new CDC guidance.
Scientists are saying that there are two main reasons for older adults’ increased susceptibility to coronaviruses. The first: They are more likely to suffer from underlying conditions that hinder the body's ability to cope with and recover from illness, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The second has to do with how our immune response changes with age. For these and many other reasons senior citizens are at much greater risk to life threatening infections if they contract the Corona Virus.
Many synagogues and community institutions have already closed their doors in order to ensure that its members not congregate as a group which would increase the chance of members contracting this potentially deadly virus.
We love all our members and congregants and want everyone to remain healthy and be blessed with many good years of quality life following the demise of this dreadful virus. For this reason, we are temporarily, closing our doors immediately for services and communal functions and we are praying in our individual homes that everyone remain healthy during this uncertain period.
We will be in touch with you when G-d willing our doors reopen and we will G-d willing celebrate the first Shabbos back with a big festive Kiddush. Wishing you and yours a very happy and healthy Passover,
We pray Hashem keeps you safe and in good health,
Rabbi Yonah Rosner

Message from President

Dear Congregants,
There is no doubt that all we talk about and hear about is COVID-19.
What to do, what not to do? It has now been decided that the Shomrim Laboker will be closed immediately. At this point we are closing for an indefinite period of time  (we have canceled everything, Shacharit, Mincha and Maariv services, classes, etc.). We will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis and keep you up to date as we hear more.
We are doing this to be extra cautious, we do not want anyone to be infected with this virus as it is highly contagious. It can be deadly, especially to the elderly and we want to do all possible to keep everyone safe. We must be proactive to keep this virus from spreading and that is why we have instituted this closing.
If you are over 70 years of age, stay at home, your health can be affected. You do not want to contract this virus.
G’d willing, this will soon be over and we will be able to come back to shul in good health.
Stay safe, stay healthy and we will update you as soon as we know more.
